Fibrus Expanding Broadband Service Throughout South Down

BROADBAND provider Fibrus is working in Killyleagh and Ballynahinch as it expands its service throughout South Down.

Kilkeel, Rostrevor and Warrenpoint will also be included in the infrastructure improvement plans described by the company as representing a “significant” investment.

Fibrus has already completed works in Dundrum, Castlewellan and Newcastle in recent weeks.

The company’s chief operating officer, Conor Harrison, said that it adapted its construction operations during lockdown.

“The lockdown period had limited impact on our progress, but we used the time to research and implement the best possible social distancing and safety measures to ensure our employees, partners and residents were protected,” he said.

“We adjusted our operations and are now following updated working practices, allowing us to continue with our expansive roll-out.”

“We have exciting and ambitious plans for towns across South Down and look forward to providing residents and businesses with a top quality service which they haven’t been able to access before. This will revolutionise connectivity, including download speeds and bandwidth, for these communities.”

Mr Harrison explained that while some aspects of the work may cause some disruption locally, particularly during for construction and digging roads, he said that it would be short-term and they aimed to “complete this initial phase as quickly as possible”.

He added: “Ensuring minimal disruption and providing a first class service is central to our work.”

Communication with local residents in the areas we operate is absolutely crucial for us at Fibrus and we welcome all feedback from those affected by our work.”
