Digital Detox: Fibrus hosts Safer Internet Day workshops

To mark ‘Safer Internet Day 2021’, leading full fibre broadband provider, Fibrus is hosting sessions for both its team and the public, to highlight some of the current dangers linked to online activity and social media and to develop awareness of Healthy Media Habits.

Fibrus has teamed up with global digital specialist, Wayne Denner, to deliver two online workshops, ‘Digital Detox and Healthy Media Habits’, and ‘Parenting in a Digital World - 2021’.

Speaking ahead of the workshops, Terri Johnston, Chief People Officer at Fibrus said:

“Fibrus is bringing innovative infrastructure to towns across Northern Ireland, providing homes and businesses with uninterrupted access to hyperfast broadband. This, coupled with recent lockdowns and restrictions, means more and more people will be spending time online for entertainment and to stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues.

“While this has quickly become an essential utility, we are also very aware of the dangers associated with overuse of digital platforms. Harmless scrolling can quickly become harmful habits, and soon you may find yourself losing hours, even days, as a result.

“As responsible leaders in our sector, we want to ensure we are playing our part at Fibrus to promote online safety and techniques on how to avoid unhealthy practices.”

The public session will be streamed live on Tuesday 9th February 9 at 8.30pm over on Wayne Denner’s Facebook page (@talk2wayne).

Online specialist, Wayne Denner added: ‘Three quarters of adults feel ‘hooked on their smartphones, tablets or other devices’. With fake news, filtered images, problematic online behaviour and cyberbullying rife, it’s not hard to imagine what impact this must have on our mental health, especially for kids and young people. These workshops will highlight ways to digitally detox, keep them up to date on online risks to ensure their time online is safe, enjoyable and productive and generally develop Healthy Media Habits for families for improved mental health’.
